In response to concerns raised about recent increases in gasoline prices, the Executive Committee of the National Joint Council has approved a revised schedule of kilometric rates effective July 1, 2004. The revised kilometric rates are based on new information about gasoline prices averaged over April and May 2004 received from the expert external consultant contracted by NJC for this purpose.
Under the methodology developed by the employer and bargaining agent members of NJC, gasoline prices are one of several factors considered in calculating kilometric rates. Other factors include new vehicle prices, depreciation and financing rates, insurance premiums and other operating and maintenance costs.
The kilometric rate is normally adjusted on an annual basis effective April 1st, unless there are reasons to take special action at some other time of the year.
