The grievor sought as corrective action that all employees in his occupational group be provided with an emergency communication system, with an adequate back-up system to safely perform their duties.

The Administrative Committee considered and agreed with the report of the Occupational Health, Safety and Physical Working Conditions Committee in that the present wording of the Personal Protective Equipment Safety Standard does not contain a specific reference to communication devices. It was also agreed that communication devices should be considered when the Standard is reviewed in 1984, and that departmental employees should be informed of the safety and security measures now in place as well as periodic updating on the Personal Alarm Security System (PASS) pilot project.

The Administrative Committee noted that Treasury Board had given approval for the installation of the PASS system at two sites with no reference to it being a pilot project.

To the extent that the above satisfies the corrective action sought, the grievance was upheld.
