The following changes to the Foreign Service Directive, as indicated below, are effective January 1, 2008.
Foreign Service Directive 17 – Appendix – Special Short-Term Separation Assistance for Spouses or Common-law Partners
1. These provisions were introduced on a trial basis, for a three-year period from June 1, 2001 to May 31, 2004. It had been agreed to extend this assistance for an additional one-year period up until May 31, 2005, to provide additional time to complete the scheduled review.
2. This assistance had been further extended to January 1, 2008 or the effective date of changes resulting from the cyclical review of the directives.
3. To allow for the completion of the review of the directives, this assistance has now been further extended to January 1, 2009 or such earlier date on which revised provisions resulting from the cyclical review become effective.
